Couple Footprints

One night a couple had a dream. They dreamed they were walking along the beach with the Lord.

Across the sky flashed scenes from their life together. For each scene the couple noticed three sets of footprints in the sand: two sets belonging to the couple, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of their lives flashed before them, the couple looked back at the footprints in the sand. They noticed that many times along the path of their life there was only one set of footprints. They also noticed that this happened at the very lowest times of their lives.

This really bothered the couple and they questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once we decided to follow you, you'd walk with us all the way. But we have noticed that during the most troubling times of our lives there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when we needed you most, you would leave."

The Lord replied, "My precious, precious children. I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
